I went here not to eat but to look at the store.

The British love for books is obvious. Bookstores and newsstands can be seen everywhere. Although some people read on their mobile phones in the subway, most of them are still reading books and newspapers, which reminds me of the mobile phone-playing people in our country. Sweat.

Barter Books is a second-hand bookstore, right on the edge of Alnwick Castle. It is said to be the largest in the UK. It was transformed from an old train station. Another reason why it attracts tourists is that the famous poster Keep Calm and carry on was also born here.

When I walked in, I saw that it was indeed well-deserved. All kinds of second-hand books filled the neat bookshelves, and records and some small toys were placed in every corner. If you have enough time, you can sit down and read a book, and you may find a lot of good things here!

A sister in her 50s or 60s saw me and stopped me and asked, &quot;Are you from China?&quot; After getting a positive answer, she excitedly let me see a book she was reading, which was about ancient Chinese emperors. She said she liked it very much and was very happy to see Chinese people while reading Chinese books.

A quick lunch while visiting Alnwick, chose to eat based on menu at the door, on entering the restaurant we were the only people there (usually puts me off) however, no need to have worried! Within half an hour there were 6 other parties eating. The food was fantastic.... calamari, whitebait and prawn starter was light and perfectly cooked, pate was superb too, I am fairly predictable in what I choose, so is my husband, so to say it&#39;s the best linguine vongole I&#39;ve ever had (I&#39;ve eaten 100s in many countries!) is a huge accolade! My husband spent his time mentally replicating the sauce his sea bass was served with... We will most definitely be back!

We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Black Swan. We shared calamari and halloumi starters, along with a delicious soup which came with two huge pieces of crusty bread. It was 2-4-1 on pizzas and they were absolutely delicious with a range of original toppings. My son had the steak and ale pie and it was absolutely packed with steak. My daughter went for the Cajun chicken burger and really enjoyed it. We were too full to manage a dessert but the children both went for cheesecake - it was Biscoff and they loved it! We will definitely be back next time we&rsquo;re in Alnwick.

Called in the last minute for Sunday lunch, are we glad we did. Not only did we get a table, the food was excellent, the staff were great. All in all a really nice restaurant and venue if you are thinking of having an event or wedding here. The pictures don&#39;t do it justice.

My wife and I shared an excellent asparagus starter. She then had mushrooms with truffles whilst I had a sirloin steak. The food was perfect, the service excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant. Fine dining in quirky surroundings.

Visited this magical building having booked first as we were advised, and I&#39;m very glad we did book for the restaurant. It is such a special building it makes it a really special experience, and so is very popular. You can sit outside under the roof and tree branches, which is still lovely, but the restaurant is special. We had lovely food (chicken livers and spring garden salad to start, steak and then trifle and Eaton Mess), and the service was good too. But it&#39;s the place and the experience that makes this special. Would definitely recommend, but make sure you book!

Had a lovely visit to The Treehouse yesterday. We were quite lucky to get away with not booking, I suppose we were the first walk-in trade of the day as we got a grest table next to the log burner but saw plenty of potential customers turned away. The restaurant doesn&#39;t run at full capacity at lunchtime so I would recommend you book in advance. The food was excellent. My wife and I both had the beefburger and readily agreed that it was the best burger we&#39;d had in the United Kingdom. The burger itself was beautifully cooked with a proper portion of fries. No silly nonsense of serving a small portion in a wire basket here. Well worth the money. The staff did point out that the venison burger listed on the menu wasn&#39;t available but ground beef makes for a far better burger so I have no complaints there. We didn&#39;t have starters or desserts but I could quite fancy some of the starters on my next visit. I did enjoy a lovely gin and tonic though! The interior of the restaurant is lovely and the staff were excellent. I gather the menu was previously a little more adventurous than the current offering and I would welcome a return to that sort of cooking as aside from the admittedly excellent burger, the main course selection didn&#39;t grab me. I will definitely return though!
